Now I lay me down to sleep,
The king-size bed is soft and deep..
I sleep right in the center groove
My human being can hardly move!
I've trapped her legs, she's tucked in tight
And here is where I pass the night
No one disturbs me or dares intrude
Till morning comes and "I want food!"
I sneak up slowly to begin
my nibbles on my human's chin.
She wakes up quickly,
I have sharp teeth-
I'm a puppy, don't you see?
For the morning's here
and it's time to play
I always seem to get my way.
So thank you Lord for giving me
This human person that I see.
The one who hugs and holds me tight
And shares her bed with me at night!

A Dog Lives Here
If
you don't want to be greeted with paws and swinging tails,
Don't come inside because dogs live here.
If you don't like the feel of a cold nose or wet tongue,
Don't come inside because dogs live here.
If you don't want to step over many scattered toys,
Don't come inside because dogs live here.
If you think that a home ought to smell of perfume,
Don't come inside because dogs live here.
But if you don't mind all of this, you will be instantly loved when you come
inside because dogs live here!

You Can’t Buy That
You can't buy loyalty,
they say
I bought it though, the other day;
You can't buy friendship, tried and true,
But just the same, I bought that too.
I made my bid, and on the
spot
Bought love and faith and a whole job lot
Of happiness, so all in all
The purchase price was pretty small
I bought a single
trusting heart,
That gave devotion from the start
If you think these things are not for sale,
Buy a brown-eyed puppy with a wagging tail.

A Pet’s Love
A companion, a pal, A
very best friend.
Someone to trust, To love 'til the end.
Someone to trust, When feeling blue.
Always a smile, To always greet you.
Always a smile, To dry up your tears.
A person to be there, To quiet your fears.
A person to be there, When lonely or sad.
Loving regardless, If hating or mad.
Loving regardless, If caring or cruel.
No matter what, Genius or fool.
No matter what, They stand by you.
Who is this person, Have you a clue?
Who is this person? I'll tell you who.
This is your pet, That loves through 'n through.

Just My Dog
He's just my dog. He is my
other eyes that can see above theclouds; my other ears that hear above the
winds.
He has told me more than a
thousand times over that I am his reason for being -- by the way he rests
against my leg, by the way he thumps his tail at my smallest smile, by the
way he shows his hurt when I leave without taking him. (I think it makes him
sick with worry when he is not along to care for me).
When I am wrong, he is delighted to forgive.
When I am angry he clowns to make me smile.
When I am happy, he is joy unbounded.
When I am a fool, he ignores it. When I succeed, he brags. Without him, I am
only another person. With him, I am all powerful.
He has taught me the
meaning of devotion is loyalty itself. With him, I know the secret comfort
and a private peace. He has brought me understanding where before I was
ignorant. His head on my knee can heal my human hurts. His presence by my
side is protection against my fears of dark and unknown things.
He has
promised to wait for me ... whenever ... wherever ... in case I need him,
and I expect I will, as I always have.
Who is he? -- He's just --

Psalm 23 for Dogs
My dog is my companion; I shall not
want for love.
Together we walk through green pastures
and beside still waters.
The trust in his eyes restoreth my
soul.
He leadeth me to rejoice in life by his
own example.
Yeah though I suffer the slights and
indifference of humans, I will fear no loneliness, for he is with me;
His warm eyes and soft fur, they
comfort me.
He judges me not, but loves and trusts
me always;
My heart runneth over.
Surely the kindness and love that I
show to this, my best friend, will earn me a place in the house of the Lord
forever.
A Dog's Purpose(from a 6-year- old boy).
Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish
Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their
little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for
a miracle.
I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we
couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia
procedure for the old dog in their home.
As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good
for six-year- old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane
might learn something from the experience.
The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's family
surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time,
that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes,
Belker slipped peacefully away.
The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty
or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's death, wondering
aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives.
Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, ''I know why.''
Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me.
I'd never heard a more comforting explanation. It has changed the way I try
and live.
He said,
''People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life -- like
loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?'' The Six-year-old
continued,''Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to
stay as long.''
Live simply.
Love generously.
Care deeply.
Speak kindly.
Inner Strength
If
you can start the day without caffeine or pep pills,
If you can be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,
If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles,
If you can eat the same food everyday and be grateful for it,
If you can understand when loved ones are too busy to give you time,
If you can overlook when people take things out on you when,
through no fault of yours, something goes wrong,
If you can take criticism and blame without resentment,
If you can face the world without lies and deceit,
If you can conquer tension without medical help,
If you can relax without liquor,
If you can sleep without the aid of drugs,
If you can do all these things,
Then you are probably the family dog.
He is your friend, your partner,
your defender, and your dog. You are his life, his love, and his leader. He
will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it
to him to be worthy of such devotion. Dogs are linked to paradise. They
don't know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside
on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not
boring, it was peace.
